Chris Sung was born in 1989 and is a Phoenix native, though most of his formative and adult years were spent in Columbus, OH. He grew up in a mostly Christian home, the youngest of 3 brothers, and has attended church from birth. After a summer youth retreat, he rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized in the summer of 2004 before moving to Columbus, OH with his family.
In Columbus, he began serving in his church’s youth group, and later college ministry, beginning his Junior year of high school. It was during his time of serving that he began to feel God calling him to serve in full time ministry. He attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a B.A. in Linguistics and Korean Studies in 2013. About a year later, he finally stopped running from God’s call and began studying at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX, graduating in 2017 with a M.Div. with a concentration in Student Ministry.
Chris has served in a variety of capacities in the church as a layman ranging from children’s ministry to young adult ministry, but he is most passionate about youth ministry, particularly in the Chinese church context. He previously served as the youth minister of Chinese Christian Church of Greater Washington, D.C. in Silver Spring, MD. He is currently serving as the English Student Pastor of Greater Phoenix Chinese Christian Church in Chandler, AZ.
Some of Chris’ interests include traveling, cooking, technology, photography, video and board games, and being perennially disappointed by Arizona sports teams (Go Suns!).
