How do I get a driver’s license in Arizona?

The Driver’s License test is divided into two parts: a written test and a road test. After passing the written test, you will get a Permit, and then you will get an official driver’s license after passing the road test. The test locations are all in the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD).

Written test

Please bring your passport and I-20 (SSN if available) with you when you go to MVD to take the written test. When registering for the written test, you will be asked to fill out a form with personal information (including height and weight in feet and pounds), color blindness, payment and photographing. The test format is a computer-based test, with 30 multiple-choice questions, and at least 24 correct questions are considered to be passed. There are three attempts to take the written test after one registration and payment, but the time interval between the two attempts shall not be less than one week. The scope of the exam is the content of the Arizona Driver License Manual, so please be sure to read and prepare carefully. Download the PDF version of the manual here. In addition, there are three sets of mock questions on the MVD website, so please practice them after studying the manual. After passing the written test, you can get the Permit. Please be sure to confirm that the personal information on the Permit is correct (in particular, name and address). The public sector is hard work, and typing errors inevitably occur.
