Church History

1960’s

Aleana Hsu, a college student from Hong Kong, Wang Mei, a graduate student from Taiwan, Yang Aihua, a university librarian, and her husband Wu Peixian attended Arizona State University (ASU). They began to pray together and the group grew, as more Taiwanese students were admitted to ASU.

1968

The Chinese Bible Study Group at ASU was founded.

1980

Sunday worship services began when the group reached 50 members from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia.

1/21/1982

Tianbei Chinese Christian Church was established with 100 members.

Oct. 1982

Pastor Chen (陈道明牧师) from Malaysia became the first pastor of the church.

Jun. 1983

Church moved to the First Baptist Church of Tempe.

1985

Church bought three acres of land in Chandler. Pastor Chen left.

Sep. 1987

Pastor Cheung (张德立牧师) became the second pastor.

Oct. 1989

Church moved to McClintock Road and was renamed to GPCCC.

1993

Added English congregation with Pastor Derek Quan as the first English pastor.

1996

Pastor Cheung left.

Nov. 1997

Hired Pastor Yang (杨光甫牧师) as the third Chinese pastor, who became Senior Pastor a year later.

Aug. 2000

Hired Pastor Du (杜德明牧师) as Chinese pastor.

Jan. 2001

Hired Pastor Li (李长桥传道) for the youth/children ministry.

Aug. 31, 2001

Purchased First Baptist Church at Ray Road. The site became the main campus.

Mar. 2002

Pastor Lu left.

Aug. 2002

Hired Pastor Liu (刘书华传道) as Assistant Chinese pastor.

Sep. 2012

Hired Pastor Cai (蔡启远牧师) as Cantonese pastor.

Today

GPCCC has about 600 adults and 150 children.
