WORD: We All Need Jesus

Steve Houston • Acts 25-26

Embrace truth even when it pokes at our pride or our fears. If we are humble and brave, Truth will do its much-needed work.

  1. The Elitists Among Us Need Jesus (26:22-25)
    • Festus saw philosophy as superior to the commoner’s mythology.
      • Trigger: Paul grouped Festus with the masses: “great and small”
      • Reaction: “Paul, you are out of your mind!” = “You are unhinged!”
    • Paul had academic credentials that no one could disparage.
      • Comeback: “I am rational and in touch with reality.”
      • Reality: The Gospel for all people holds its own intellectually.
    • Humbly get off your pedestal and see Jesus as supreme! Our Supreme Savior will lift you up to glory.
  2. The Hold Outs Among Us Need Jesus (26:26-29)
    • Agrippa pretended to hold beliefs that aligned with his party.
      • Trigger: Paul exposed Agrippa’s belief in the Bible’s many “prophets
      • Reaction: “Paul, you can’t convert me!” = “You are pushy!”
    • Paul understood Jewish fears and longings inside and out.
      • Comeback: I am blessed and without real drawbacks.
      • Reality: The Gospel for eternal reward is worth total commitment.
    • Bravely get off the fence and cast all your trust in Jesus! Our Trusted Treasure will make it worth it all.
